It took me, as it does everyone else, four long years to climb the food chain and become a senior in high school. When that day finally came I walked through the halls, head up, eyes wide and expecting people to move out of my way. They did, well the freshman anyways (those poor children). I took each day as if I were too good for high school, and I would graduate regardless. What on earth was I thinking? Although senior year was a blast for me, I failed to realize that just a few short months after high school graduation, I would be back at the bottom of that food chain. I AM THAT POOR CHILD! Oh no! I pulled up to my designated move in area, and off the wind those foot ball boys went! It was all but 10 minutes before my car was cleaned out, and my dorm room was full. Boy, do those little dorm rooms fill up quick! As I was finishing up putting my side of the room together, a thought came to my mind.
It is only now in this very moment that I will ever feel this scared, this nervous, this excited about moving into a dorm. It is only now that this will be my first time being new to dorms. It is only now that I will be a freshman in college.
So, I made a promise to myself. Be loud at sporting events, move out of the way of those who terrify you (because why not?!), ask questions, learn each and every day….because you want to, keep your door open & let strangers become friends. Because it is now that will shape the next 4 years of college.
Freshman again? Absolutely.
