Happy Days

They come far and few between for some of us, but when they arrive…they knock hard at our doors.

Lately, I have been one of those that has their happy days few and far between. But let me tell you something so beautiful about those happy days.

They make me feel like I can climb mountains without ever stopping. They make me feel like I could run a marathon without growing weak. They make me believe that on that specific day…the sun will shine. Happy days lead me to believe that yes…there are more happy days yet to come, and it leaves me with this sense of hope that seamed so false up until my happy day arrived. To some, happy days are a regular occurrence, and I am so genuinely happy for you, and I pray your happy days never lose their light. However, be mindful to those who have to change their lightbulbs more than others. Ask “How are you?” and don’t take “fine,” for an answer, because we are probably lying to you. If we tell you we are sad please do not ask why in a way that makes us feel as if we are wasting your time, because more than likely we don’t even know that answer quite yet, but I promise you we will tell you once we figure it out. Be gentle, some of us are already hard on ourselves…we don’t need someone else adding weight to our already broken shoulders. Understand that we know we are broken people, and in a way we know can shed light through every crack that has been placed upon our hearts and minds. Be a friend. Sometimes that is all we need.

And lastly, keep your beautiful light shining, maybe YOU are the sun that shines in our life that day that our happy days promise.

Love, someone who refuses to let her light bulb die.
